Lucid started as something to do in between setting things on fire and watching DBZ. Music was always a passion shared by Adam Hawley (guitar) and Jess Reed (bass). Lucid was a brain child of the two who stayed focused through several musical projects. Lucid would become complete in 2003 amongst screaming managers and the smell of grease. Justin Landry (vocals) and Chance Toups (drums) And Hawley all found themselves pissing away their Friday nights severing fast food together. Toups was asked to try out for Hawley’s next project. Hawley, Toups, Reed and Kirt Soileau (ex-guitar/vocals) played their first gig under a different name for a benefit concert. After playing to both people who came out at 8:00Am on that hot ass Sunday morning, Soileau decided to pursue a different style of music and left the band and took his vocals with him. Landry was always belting out at work (much to the manager’s dis-amusement) the best love ballads that the 80’s could offer. His abilities were apparent so he was invited to try out.
Pregnancy, getting arrested and chemical dependency (and just about every other cliché “rock star” mistake) put the band on a brief hiatus in 2004 and 2006 though not in that order nor at the same time. Toups had to step down as drummer and step up as a “baby daddy” in 2006. Lucid then went on the prowl for a replacement drummer. Mid 2006 with hands stained black with ink from newspaper ads and sore feet from pounding the pavement in search for a drummer lucid caught a break. At a ‘This Night Will Burn’ show Hawley ran into an old acquaintance, the drummer for ‘This Night Will Burn’ Bert Thibedaux. Thibedaux left his band and was picked up by lucid shortly there after.
Three short months after Thibedaux joined the band, Lucid recorded their debut album “IV Year.” Featured on the full length album are 12 original songs covering a range such as “for all the world to see” to “poorboy” and much harder hitting tracks like “Poison Mind” and “Succubus.” Working with producer Rhett Mouton, the band was able to capture the raw feel to their music.
Shortly after releasing “IV Year” Lucid embarked on a tour that would bring them all over the southeastern United States. The last stop of the ‘Colossal Fabulous’ tour Lucid ran into Stash & DJ of Iroc102 who had this to say about lucid. “… in the image of Louisiana, these guys simply refreshed my memory of what the "Party State" is all about. The band that I'm talking about is none other than Lucid! …We will defiantly be look forward to seeing Lucid the next time that they come to Texas!”
As the bad boys musicians all want to be, Thibedaux left the band for a life correction. Lucid enjoyed a temporary reunion with ex drummer Toups and played several shows with him before lucid found their new drummer Nathan Burns. After hearing that ‘War Cries’ (Nathan Burns’ former band) had split, lucid asked Burns to join the ranks of lucid. Lucid is currently working on new material for another album and playing shows and is looking forward to the follow-up of the ‘Colossal Fabulous.’
